Pies.. You can’t beat ‘em.

But did you know that although we Brits declare the pie our own masterpiece, it actually originated way back with the Egyptians?

Then it went with the Greeks and Romans and, eventually, found its way to medieval Britain, who named them ‘coffyns’ – nice.

And this ancient grub doesn’t look set to die out anytime soon..

In fact, it just keeps evolving and thankfully, pie makers and chefs are starting to realise the need for G Free versions of this superstar food.

The beauty of the pie is its versatility.

You can have sweet ones, savoury ones, big ones, little ones and even pizza ones – so you’d think the superhero of the comfort food world wouldn’t have any weaknesses..

Yet, gluten is one of the fundamentals in making and baking a piecrust, which makes it a danger zone for Coeliac sufferers.

But, never fear, WG is here!

We are, as you know, particularly passionate about G Free food and like to make sure all our lovely readers who have Coeliac disease feel loved.

That’s why we went hunting for the best gluten free meat pie recipe ever.

Tried and tasted we think the aptly named ‘World’s Greatest Gluten Free Pie’ is simply superb.

Don’t take our word for it, try it yourself, we published the recipe for you..

But if your tooth is a little sweeter, here are our top 5 G Free sweet pies you should definitely try:

G Free Lemon Meringue Pie – Lusciously sweet and tart it should be baked in a buttery G Free pie crust with flourishing peaks, a treat for the eyes as well as the tummy!

G Free Peach and Blueberry Tart – This scrumptious summer treat is so good you’ll be baking it every weekend.

Classic Apple Pie – Spiced apples, a sprinkle of sugar and a generous dollop of ice cream, this traditional desert can be modernised with a buttery G Free crust.

Rhubarb and Cherry Pie – It’s tart, it’s sweet, it’s summer in a pie – again buttery G Free crust is best.

Fudgy Choco Tart – Ok this is the wild card, but it has chocolate – yum, it’s G Free – yummy, and it’s got chocolate – yum yum yummy! It’s the perfect end to a stressful day or as a devilish treat!

And don’t forget, just because you have Coeliac disease doesn’t mean you can’t pie out..
