What Can You Make With A Bramley Apple?

What is the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Bramley Apples? Apple pies smothered in custard? Pork chops covered in sweet apple sauce?
Well if you’re a little bit addicted to this famous British apple, then we have got some good news…
5th-12 February is Bramley Apple Week! That’s right! For the next 7 days, you can celebrate this family favourite fruit and take up the Bramley Classic Challenge.
It’s Time To Get To Your Cooking Stations…
We all know the classics: Bramley apple pie and crumble; however Mark Hix of The Great British Menu wants to know what else can be done with this delicious fruit.
As such he has set the challenge to get your creative juices flowing and invent a new classic dessert whose many components are Bramley Apples. Delish!
Are You Up To The Challenge?
Okay, we’ve got a confession to make…
The deadline for the Bramley Classic Challenge has passed, but just because you can no longer enter, doesn’t mean you can’t get inventive in the kitchen and create a brand new Bramley apple dish.
In fact, we dare you to come up with a unique meal consisting of Bramley apples and post it below. Here are a few ideas to get your brain ticking, your juices flowing and your knives chopping:
- Chicken, apple and pesto penne – sauté some Bramley apples and chicken in a pan, drain and serve with boiled penne and pesto. YUM!
- Sage and Apple pork – grate 2 Bramley apples into some sage and onion stuffing, blend and then use to coat 4 pork loin steaks. Baked for 25 minutes, the combination is wonderful…
- Beef and Bramley meatballs – add an ‘appley’ flavour to your meatballs by blending beef mince, breadcrumbs, sage, egg and your Bramley apples together. Roll into balls, fry and serve in noodles cooked in your remaining grated Bramley.
